Skilled Migration Visas

Skilled Migration Visas

Australia stands out as one of the few advanced nations with a well-established migration system. As its economy continues to flourish, there is a pressing need for a skilled workforce, which can only be met through the influx of skilled immigrants. These immigrants actively participate in the Australian labor market, contributing significantly to economic expansion and, in turn, creating more job opportunities. The General Skilled Migration program offers visas that are allocated based on a comprehensive points assessment, with applicants being categorized as independent, state/territory-nominated, or family-sponsored.

Primary Requirements

The Australian skilled migration program aims to select immigrants whose qualifications and work experience will benefit the national economy. To qualify under this category, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be under 45 years old at the time of invitation.

  • English Proficiency: A competent level of English proficiency is required, typically equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 6. Higher levels may be necessary for certain professions, depending on skill assessments. Regional sponsorships may allow for lower English proficiency requirements.

  • Qualifications: Applicants must hold post-secondary or professional qualifications evaluated by the appropriate authority as suitable for their chosen occupation. Alternatively, substantial work experience may substitute for formal education in some cases.

  • Nominated Occupation: Applicants must nominate an occupation aligned with their qualifications and work experience from the Combined Skilled Occupations List (STSOL-MLTSSL). Flexibility exists in matching nominated occupations to actual work duties.

  • Work Experience: While formal work experience in the nominated occupation isn't mandated by Australian migration law, points are awarded based on years of relevant experience, as assessed by relevant skill assessment authorities.

  • Points-Tested System: Applicants for Skilled Independent, Nominated, or Regional visas must achieve a points test pass mark of 65. Points are awarded based on factors such as education, age, English proficiency, work experience in Australia or abroad, spouse qualifications, community language skills, Australian education or regional training, completion of a Professional Year in Australia, state nomination, or relative sponsorship.

Detailed information should be provided in the points test form to assist in selecting the most suitable nominated occupation.
