Business Migration Visas

Business migration visas facilitate the entry of business people and investors into Australia, aiming to boost economic activity. Key requirements for applicants include:

  • Demonstrable assets that can be transferred to Australia after immigration.
  • A successful business track record in their home country (for some visas).
  • Development of a business plan specific to Australia (for some visas).
  • Applicants over 45 years of age can apply for business immigration.
  • Businesspeople and investors may not need to demonstrate English proficiency in certain circumstances.
  • Nomination by an Australian State or Territory government agency is necessary before applying for the visa.

There are four main streams for business immigration to Australia, categorized into two types based on the proposed activities in Australia:

  • Active Business Participation
  • Passive Investing

Primary Requirements

ACTIVE BUSINESS PARTICIPATION

Primary Requirements for Business Innovation Stream:

  • Possess at least 3 years of management experience in business ownership.
  • Show an annual business turnover of at least AU $750,000 for the past two years.
  • Demonstrate family assets totaling at least AU $1,500,000 for the past two years.
  • Score at least 65 points on the business visa points test.
  • Be under 55 years of age.
  • Have a successful business career and a genuine commitment to continue owning and managing a business in Australia.

Primary Requirements for Entrepreneur Stream:

  • Must be engaged or intend to engage in a complying entrepreneurial activity in Australia. This activity should involve an innovative idea aimed at commercializing a product or service in Australia, or developing an enterprise or business in the country.
  • Must be endorsed by the nominating State or Territory government agency for developing entrepreneurial concepts. Eligibility can be verified by contacting the nominating State or Territory.
  • Possess Competent English skills (IELTS score of 6 in each band).
  • Be under 55 years of age.

PASSIVE INVESTING

Primary Requirements for Investor Stream (AUD 2.5 million):

  • Have managed a qualifying business or investments for at least 3 years.
  • Possess family net assets totaling at least AU $2,500,000 for the past two years, derived from business or investment activities.
  • Make a complying investment of at least AUD 2.5 million and maintain complying significant investments throughout the provisional visa's duration, divided as follows:
    • At least AUD 500,000 in venture capital and growth private equity funds targeting startups and small private companies.
    • At least AUD 750,000 in approved managed funds investing in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
    • A 'balancing investment' of at least AUD 1.25 million in managed funds.
  • Score at least 65 points on the business visa points test.
  • Be under 55 years of age.

Significant Investor Stream (AUD 5.0 million):

  • Make a significant investment of at least AUD 5 million with a genuine intent to hold the investment for the duration of the provisional visa, distributed as follows:
    • At least AUD 1 million in venture capital and growth private equity funds targeting startups and small private companies.
    • At least AUD 1.5 million in approved managed funds investing in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
    • A 'balancing investment' of at least AUD 2.5 million in managed funds.
  • No age requirements.
  • No business or investment experience requirements.
  • No English language proficiency requirements.
  • No points test requirements.
